MARINE ENERGY WORKING GROUP ACTIVITIES

Report to 2008 AGM
The 6 Forums in NB focused on the SEA process for tidal power were completed in the last FY and the report was prepared and submitted to the NB government. BoFEP handled the contract’s finances for this project.

It should also be noted that members of the Minas Basin Working Group are also involved in the assessments of the potential impacts of tidal energy development in their geographic region. For example, Patricia Hinch completed an internship with the NS Department of Energy and a paper on this topic in August for her Master of Marine Management, Marine Affairs program at Dalhousie. BoFEP has recently been approached by Minas Basin Pulp and Power and Gartner Lee Ltd. to appoint a representative to the Stakeholder Liaison Committee. The SLC is intended to "facilitate open, timely and transparent two-way communication between stakeholders in the Minas Passage area and the project proponent, Minas Basin Pulp and Power, related to the environmental assessment, the timing, content, location and design of information sessions/open houses, as well as other communications approaches". The representative selected will likely be a member of both the Marine Energy and Minas Basin WGs.
