RE: BoFEP Membership and Participation for 2010.

The Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership is celebrating 15 years of work on the science and environmental concerns of the Bay of Fundy, the Gulf of Maine, and their watersheds.  There are new communications products, projects of working groups, the talking circle concept and its role in promoting conservation, access to Fundy information according to user needs, contributions to the upcoming Coastal Zone Canada Conference in Charlottetown (July 26-19th, 2010), and plans for the next Bay of Fundy Science Workshop in 2011.  Our web site is a recognized information source on Fundy. Successes to date would not have been possible without your participation.

BoFEP will operate in 2010 with four key functions – selected communication efforts, studies conducted by a few focused working groups, planning for the next biennial Fundy science workshop for 2011, and the Secretariat.  Environment Canada support has just been promised again for another fiscal year, and we are extremely grateful for this commitment from our long term, primary sponsor.

However, our work must start to be supported by memberships and by project oriented contracts from various agencies and the private sector.  We must broaden our sources of support to keep running the primary programs.  To augment the financial situation, BoFEP has initiated  an Ambassador Program.  The BoFEP Ambassadors are approaching businesses in the Fundy region to make them aware of BoFEP’s work  and value, and to ask for direct support.  We are also applying for non-profit status to improve our ability to apply for grants.

By this second appeal to members (April 2010),  BoFEP is asking for your tangible support for 2010.  We attach a membership form for your dues.  Please renew your membership, or join BoFEP as a new supporting member.  Support us individually or corporately.  Please give generously.  Membership is for the 2010 Calendar year.  Dues should be received by April 30th.  Receipts will be issued. If you have already joined,  thank-you very much (and recycle or pass along this letter!).

As a BoFEP  member, you directly support the programs, and have access to the website, notification of upcoming Fundy events through the quarterly Fundy Newsletter, and reduced fees for the next Fundy Science Workshop.  You have the satisfaction of supporting  tangible research and communication projects on the Bay of Fundy -  a coastal region recognized for its diverse ecosystems, biodiversity, living resources, coastal communities and vibrant economy, and celebrated globally.

Thank-you very much for your support of BoFEP.  Have an enjoyable Spring.

Peter G. Wells, Chair                                                           Marianne Janowicz, Vice-Chair.
